Database Backup

PLEASE REMEMBER TO KEEP AN EXTERNAL BACKUP OF YOUR DATA IN CASE OF PC THEFT/FIRE DAMAGE ETC.

In Onyx we have a full database backup facility, which saves your data to an archive file for easy storage.  Pre this version you had to stop the server and save the database (located by default by typing "%ONYXV4_DATA_PATH%" in the Windows run dialog).

To start a database backup simply go to ‘Maintenance -> Backup Data’ on the main menu;

If you have not already set one, you will now be asked to set a password.  Please makes sure you enter something memorable as you will not be able to use the restore feature if you don't know the password (Note, password can be reset on the help tab but you will need your unlock code and username)

If the PC you are working at is designated ‘Client Master’ then you will be shown the Database Backup screen:

You can also create a database backup on a slave PC though it will take a little longer as Onyx needs to copy the entire database to the local PC and then encrypt it.

You can also use Onyx Event Manager to schedule automatic backups.

Simply press ‘Run’ and Onyx will copy the database and then create a dated and timed archive.  You can also enter a small comment to remind you why you created the backup (this comment is stored in the archive so will be shown on other PCs).  When completed you will be shown a message which includes the archive file size which is useful to further ensure that the archive is successful (if the file size is smaller than the last archive something must have gone wrong).
